We started the day meeting with the CEO of the hospital, Mr. Marete, the new orthopedic surgeon, James Kinyua, and the general surgeon, Shelmith Muthee. The are very excited about the start up of the department of orthopedic surgery. James has been there about 6 weeks and is gradually becoming busier. They are grateful for the $10,000 to take care of the truly indigent and $10,000 to buy equipment needed to establish their orthopedic surgery capabilities.

We then went to the Disability Community Center. I have worked with them several times. There we established the relationship between Oliver, director of the center, and James. We say several patients to evaluate for surgery.

Highlighting two of the patients because I think I have written about them. Victor is a 15 year old with cerebral palsy that I met last year. He is extremely intelligent, Last year he had been dismissed from a school because he can’t hold a pen. We started him on physical and adaptive therapy. Fortunately, he was able to return to school but has minimal function of his hands. James, who is also a fellowship trained hand surgeon was able to make several suggestions, and will perform surgery on both of his arms to improve function.

Second is a small boy with severe contractures of his left arm due to burns. Dr. Farley released his elbow in September 2018and his wrist in September 2019. Both of these joint now move freely. Now he will be scheduled to release his fingers. These surgeries are payed for through your generosity. Thank you.

Blessings,

Doug
