Today we traveled about 2.5 hours to Masai Land. Kajiado Home for Disabled is a home for disabled children. Many have CP, and some have deformities requiring surgery. Some of the children are permanent residents, while others stay there while awaiting surgery and recovering from surgery. Most of these surgeries are performed at Kikuyu Orthopedic Rehabilitation Center. I have written previously about leveraging the new national health insurance program to pay for surgical care. With your support about 122 children have insurance. If they need surgery a portion is paid for by the health insurance fund and the rest by the poor patient fund for these children at Kikuyu. It is very cost effective. Below are some of the children being cared for. We are grateful for your support of this program.

While we were there we met three people from the UK. They developed an inexpensive wheel chair that may be made on site using plastic pipes and steel tubes. The amazing thing is that it can be adapted to each child and to use what ever is available in terms of previously used wheel chair tires. It is designed with the big wheels in front so that it can navigate rough terrain. I have attache a picture.

Tomorrow, we are going to Mombasa to stay by the Indian Ocean for a few days. I hear it is beautiful. This is a good time to note that we pay for our travel and expenses ourselves. No donations are used to pay for these adventures. I will be sure to publish some pictures.

Blessings,

Doug
