Bornface Chebet

Bornface Chebet is a 13 years old male from Kasisit sub location, saimo location in Baringo County. He comes from a nuclear family of 6 siblings.3brothers and 3sisters.They live in a traditional hut and parents are able to provide 2 meals a day.

Born at their home village, Mama Bornface tells of how her challenges begun, a journey that neither Bornface nor   his parents knew its end. She had a prolonged labor and the child never cried immediately after birth. She took the child to a home hospital where Bornface developed more complications. He started having convulsions and was diagnosed to be having cerebral palsy.(a brain damage that leads to paralysis or  Loss of motor muscle control)

Treated at several places, he did not respond quickly to the management given. This long term management of being on and off the hospital for therapy was hard for his father to support him since he had other children and commitments to attend to. The only hope left for Bornface was his mother whose ability was also limited by resources availability example finance.

The AIC Kajiado Child Care Center conducts outreach clinics thrice every year to Baringo. It was during September 2017 outreach that Bornface was brought to our clinic. He was found to have the above mentioned diagnoses. He had tight hamstrings and Achilles tendons respectively. He could not sit, stand nor walk. His legs were flexed and were used to sit in a ring sitting pattern.

Daniel the project Director and Joseph a physiotherapist at the Centre both decided to bring Bornface to Kajiado for admission where he would be referred to kikuyu Mission Hospital for surgery.

Kikuyu hospital is a mission hospital formed 1908, that does a specialized service through a four unit model namely orthopedic, dental, eye unit and the general unit

During his stay, Bornface received orthopedic surgery of hamstring lengthening, rehabilitative management and intensive therapeutic treatment.it is now 8 months since he was operated.

Post operatively in casts.

Bornface is now able to stand with aid of a walker and long leg calipers. He continues to require more exercises to enable him to walk independently. His mother is very happy and waiting in anticipation to see her child walking.

Bornface had gone through so many challenges ranging from physical, social and psychological. He will be able to join school after he has achieved walking independently. This will take a while before he is there. His mother helpless as she is, thanks Wilson Rehabilitation Foundation and all for the assistance given and pray that God will reward our donors with more resources to even assist more people.

A light is seen definitely and the hope of a future in him is found, all this was only made possible through the support of Wilson Rehabilitation Foundation.
